The Board of Accountancy is the state agency responsible for licensing and regulating certified public accountants and certified public accounting firms. The Board is funded solely through fees charged to obtain and renew a license to practice public accounting and to sit for the CPA exam.
ONLINE LICENSE VERIFICATION
The time period to renew a firm or individual CPA license for 2014 has expired. CPA's must use the reinstatement process and firm managers must contact the Board office for further instructions on renewing a firm license.
If a firm or CPA license was not renewed prior to August 1 neither the firm nor a CPA may use the CPA abbreviation or provide public accounting services.
Continuing Professional Education ("CPE") hours must be completed in the two calendar years prior to the year during which a license is to be renewed. The two calendar years are referred to as the "reporting period".
Any CPA who fails to complete the CPE by the December 31 deadline will not be eligible to renew his or her license. Instead the CPA will be required to use the reinstatement process.
The reinstatement process requires submission of a completed Reinstatement Application along with a check or money order in the amount of $200 made payable to the KY State Board of Accountancy. In addition the applicant must have completed either 60 or 80 hours of CPE, one half of those hours must have been in accounting or auditing courses and 2 hours of ethics, within two years from the date the application is submitted. Documentation to verify completion of those hours must be submitted with the application. All reinstatement applications are reviewed by the Board members for approval.
